Hope

I forget that I am already in the river and the river continues flowing. Flowing with the current requires a persistent openness to what is and what will be. In that openness is hope.

To have hope, I need patience. In this way, hope requires some work, but not in a grin and bear it kind of way. I think it is a matter of perspective. To wait and to be okay with that. While waiting, to not obsess over what you wish were different, but to keep on living with a mind that is present. Whatever needs to change will change as long as incremental steps are being taken.

A culmination of those steps while living moment to moment in gratitude is what transforms patience to hope and distinguishes it from anxious fidgeting and a constant wishing away of time. Hope stands on a foundation of faith in what is now and to come.
