November 2023 - Reflections on Autumn

This autumn is the most beautiful one that I’ve seen in this neighborhood. The leaves, despite not being able to turn completely red because of the climate, are turning reddish at the edges, drying, and falling. The sky is uncovered.. It seems to stretch more deeply upwards—a typical fall sky that I love so much. The air is mild and soft.

Despite knowing that I want to go back to a more urban neighborhood, a part of me clings to this environment where I can step out of the house and take in the natural landscape of autumn without being disturbed by the noises of cars or the necessity to drive somewhere simply to see trees shedding their leaves.

Autumn is the best season for taking walks. I try to take advantage of it as much as I can because soon the trees will be bare and the rainy season will begin. Seasons in which this neighborhood is the most beautiful are also the ones that are brief. Unlike the seemingly interminable heat of summer and cold gloom of winter, spring and autumn come quietly, open all of their beauty without reservation, and become consumed by their longer seasonal neighbors over the course of what it feels like one night in which I am oblivious to the wordless transitions taking place outside while I am asleep. I find myself wanting to be surrounded by those particular rustling sounds of the autumn leaves every moment of the day, knowing that they will be gone soon for this year.
