Swept This Way and That

Feeling tired from doing too much doesn’t only have to do with the sheer amount of things we do. It also arises from the lack of intentionality in how we do what we do and how we interact with other people. We fail to be intentional, because we get caught up in the doing. When we are stretched past our capacity, the mind, without being conscious of it, feels hurried or frenzied, and its turbulence prevents us from being deeply aware of what we are experiencing or engaging with in the moment. The self is not truly grounded in itself or the present.

A self that is not grounded is lifted up into the air and is swept this way and that. It skims the surface of things and wants to keep on moving according to the momentum of its movement, without paying attention, without taking the breaths that it needs to be aware of how it feels to move. It is no wonder it has driven itself to exhaustion.
