Gayatri Mantra

“The eternal, earth, air, heaven

That glory, that resplendence of the sun

May we contemplate the brilliance of that light

May the sun inspire our minds.”

-Gayatri Mantra, trans. Douglas Brooks

Contemplate the clarity of our consciousness that is like ice reflecting the light of the winter sun, so clean and bright that it hurts the eyes. When I think of the eternal, I think of expansive and cold. Cold inside as much as it is to the skin. Spotless.

May such a place take root in our minds. May we reside there and be conscious of its brilliance and quietness. Peace is cold and luminous, expanding discreetly inside me, to hold the earth, air, and heaven. I was born from this place. I try to return to this source of life.
