Exercise in Mindful Eating

I have a couple of slices of mango on a plate. I observe their shapes, the way the angles of their edges create the shape of each slice. I notice the bright yellow color that contrasts with the white plate and the slightly grainy texture of their surfaces. I smell the sticky sweet fragrance. I put a slice into my mouth and bite into the flesh. I experience the smooth texture of the flesh against the insides of my mouth and its softness as my teeth sink into it. I chew , savoring the flavor, until the slice has become one mushy lump. Then, I swallow.

The most pleasurable way to eat is to eat mindfully. When you eat mindfully, everything that you eat is able to showcase its unique flavor and texture. Every instance of chewing and swallowing is like a walk of appreciation where you encounter your food.
