Same Scenery

It may feel boring at times to see the same scenery outside one’s window: the same tree, the same building, the same shade of blue in the sky. But there is an element of beauty in this constancy. When one opens the curtain in the morning and sees the same unsurprising picture, what has been provided is a space for one to bring out a blank canvas for one’s day. This day, externally, feels the same as yesterday and it is precisely this external sameness that allows one to create from a source that wells up inside themselves. Many famous writers are known to have had an incredibly regular daily routine. I can’t help but think that this unchanging day-by-day routine acted like the constant scenery outside the window or a backdrop that gave them the calm to create. In a world that feeds off constant stimulation and attention deficit, an element that appears to be reliably the same in one’s daily life may be a gift to one’s creative capacity.
