The Glow of Quietness
“When you walk across the fields with your mind pure and holy, then from all the stones, and all growing things, and all animals, the sparks of their soul come out and cling to you, and then they are purified and become a holy fire in you.” - a Hasidic master
One of the things that I gained from living in a quiet and peaceful place was how to be quiet myself. I learned how to sit and listen to the sounds outside and inside me. By listening, I was waiting. For what, I am not sure, but I know that the quietness of such a state partly resulted in my becoming more perceptive to and appreciative of the connection between me and the souls of all growing things in my surroundings. This connection has played a big role in the way I perceive the world. As I move back to the city, I would like to keep this quietness inside me. As I walk across streets and between buildings rather than fields or empty lots, I would like the souls of stones and animals to cling to my skin with a muted glow and keep me grounded to earth. I hope the peace that I receive from being grounded in such a way will sustain me and will be the energy that I am able to project outward.
